Nordstrom Anniversary Sale: My Favorites

It’s a great time of the year – the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale! This sale is da bomb because the items are brand-new and in-season. Unfortunately,  I do not live near a Nordstroms so I will be doing all of my shopping online (still trying to convince the BF a trip to Chicago is necessary for this blog post ha!).

July 22nd is the official start date and the deals stop on August 8th – unless you have a Nordstroms card in which case you can start destroying your bank account now!

It’s times like this when I really need to keep my budget in mind – all these amazing deals are very tempting! But who really needs to eat lunch every day (haha – JK!)

Enough with all of the details; let’s get into the fun stuff! I present to you my top 5 favorite pieces of clothing, shoes, and accessories. I explicitly used the word top 5 because there are a lot more items I like but the top 5 made me feel normal felt reasonable to post about.

A Fiery Date Night

Avery planned a surprise 10 month anniversary date night and it was fabulous!

us

We started the night at Sushi Kuni (this place is scarily close to our new apartment) and it was amazing! The restaurant was very intimate because the crowd was light and the atmosphere was dark – perfect for a date night. At dinner I came up with a fun conversation topic,  we each named 5 things we want to do as a couple! I like to think of this as a start to a ‘Couples Bucket List’.  It was super fun to talk about all the adventures we hope to go on one day!

Along with great conversation we had great food! For an appetizer we had tempura shrimp, sweet potatoes, broccoli, and onions all battered and fried.

For the main entree, we got three specialty Sushi Rolls. They were all delicious and unique!

Pako Roll (Avery’s favorite!)

A deep-fried yellowtail and cream cheese roll is placed into a roll with cucumber and avocado. Eel and sesame sauce is drizzled on top.

Harry Potter Roll (Had to)

Baked to perfection. Shrimp tempura, cream cheese, topped with spicy crab, mozzarella cheese, and eel sauce is cooked together in an oven.

BBQ Roll (Best sushi presentation ever)

ON FIRE – spicy tuna, crab, asparagus cucumber, topped with shrimp, spicy mayo and unagi-sauce.

On fire sushi
Literally guys, this roll came out on FIRE!! 😮

I have never seen anything like the BBQ roll before; it started out with a ‘fresh off the grill’ flavor and then ended with a lot of spice!
After dinner, drinks and a quick PokéStop (yes, the bf has got me playing this game); we went and saw the CUTEST movie – The Secret Life of Pets. I am in love with this movie. It warmed my heart oo so much and was hilarious!  I would highly recommend you see it ASAP! It made a perfect date night movie.

Have you ever planned a secret date night? I would love to hear ideas so I can plan our next one.

Moving: Out With the Old, In With the Different

So, I moved.

A little over a week ago I left my cute, little 1 bedroom apartment in the city and moved in with Avery (the bf!) to a large 2 bedroom apartment complex in the burbs! I never I thought would be out of the city already, but I am loving it so far!

I might have gotten a little crazy leading up to the move… but the time spent creating a detailed moving day schedule and an extensive move out checkout list paid off because our move was FLAWLESS! (is it just me, or does that word make you want to turn on Beyoncé immediately?!)

Here are some thoughts about my old and new apartment!

What I will miss about my apartment in the city

Proximity – I lived in the middle of a very hip neighborhood. A stone’s throw away from my favorite breakfast joint, bars, restaurants, and shops. Any place we wanted to go was a quick Uber ride away and I loved it.

Running – A couple of months back I ran my first half marathon and that required a lot of training. I loved being able to walk out my apartment and start a run that might end up down by the lake or through downtown!

Trash Location – This may seem silly, but walking by the dumpsters every time you go to the parking lot was hella convenient! Now we have to drive our trash to the compactor in our complex (little prayer our bags don’t ever break in the car)!

It Was Mine – This is just me being honest; I loved my old apartment because it was all mine. I picked it, I decorated it, I made it feel like a home. I was proud of myself for moving out on my own in a new area!

What I am loving about our apartment in the burbs.

All Da Space!! –  I went from living in a very cozy 1 bedroom to a very spacious 2 bedroom. The space difference is night and day (We have a walk-in closet and a personal vanity in the bedroom – so I guess sometimes dreams do come true!)

Outdoor Space–  We have a cute little patio that faces woods and a pond. It’s a perfect spot to enjoy morning coffee or an afternoon drink!

New(er) Proximity – I am a tad addicted to ‘newness’. So having an apartment in a new area is always exciting! New restaurants, shops, and entertainment.

It’s Ours – There is something special about making decisions with another person, and making them with Avery has proven to be amazing. We get to make this new apartment feel like ours, and that is super exciting!

I will post pictures of the new apartment once we get some decorations up!

Have you  ever made a move to or from the city? I would love to hear about it!

Am I a Cook?

A common question that comes up when meeting new people is “So do you like to cook?”. My answer has always been “Do ramen noodles count?” followed by a look of horror.

I have never considered myself a cook – I identify as a professional online chef (if a restaurant has an online ordering system there is a very high chance I have used it…more than once!).

One night, after I cooked for the boyfriend and I a bomb-ass meal, he made a jaw-dropping comment to the tune of: “From now on when someone ask if you cook, you can say yes.”

HOLD THE PHONES…
Little ol’ me an actual cook?
Nah.

So I begin to think , what exactly makes someone a cook?

  • Enjoying cooking?
  • How often you cook?
  • Who you cook for?
  • How complicated the food you cook is?
  • If you follow a recipe or eyeball everything?

Lately, I have been doing more cooking in an effort to save money and eat healthier but does that actually make me cook?

The next time someone ask me if I like to cook maybe I’ll have to respond TBD. For now I will stick to cooking for Avery, while following a simple recipe about 3 times a week.

Do you consider yourself a cook?! I’d love to hear some of your favorite, SIMPLE recipes.
